i had the privilege of partnering him, representing Hazelwood, on a number of occasions. On one occasion, we won, but i never held my serve once: serving 2-3 double faults every game which left me emotionally distraught. After the match, he proceeded to tell anyone who would listen about his heroic effort. 

On another occasion, i partnered Jo who, at the time, was Australian Open mixed doubles champion. We lost to a pair who Alan and his partner had earlier beaten 6-1, 6-0. He stood at the back of the court laughing as we slumped to defeat.
